Girl Scout Badge Program

Let a musical classic carry you away while earning your Theater badge! Montgomery Theater, Jr. wants to help your Junior or Brownie troop add another badge to their sashes. Montgomery Theater is a professional, non-profit theatre that has been serving Souderton and its surrounding communities since 1993. Montgomery Theater, Too. productions, like the upcoming FAIRY TALE HIGH SCHOOL, were implemented to give our neighbors a family friendly night out! Completing the requirements for the theater badge requires two workshops with MTT’s teaching artist; one visit at your troop’s regularly scheduled meeting prior to your visit to the theater and one immediately following a performance of FAIRY TALE HIGH SCHOOL.

The Pre-Show visit will include theater warm up games, like the ones used in real rehearsals, that include mirror mimic (badge book requirement #4), “how you say it” (#5), and “belt it out” (#8). The visit will also include a round of charades (#3) and a workshop on different theater styles from around the world that use masks (#9). Since theater is all about using the imagination, the scouts will then get to pick a character or place from the play and design their own set or costume sketch (#6).

On the day of the show, Scouts will arrive at MT early to watch one of the actors put on his/her makeup (#7) and then attend the performance (#10). After the show, there will be a half hour break for dinner so don’t forget to bring your brown bag. Then the girls will be led in a workshop in MT’s rehearsal hall to discuss the various characters from the play (#2) and create masks (#1) for each, using the traits they have discussed and what they learned from the Pre-Show visit about which style of mask would work best for each character. The cost is $35 per scout. (Groups must have a minimum of 10 scouts.) This rate includes the two sessions with the teaching artist and a ticket to the show. Two tickets for the Scout Leader and a chaperone are included free of charge. Groups of 15 scouts or more receive a discounted rate of $30 per scout.

There are only four performances with workshop scheduled so make your troop’s reservation today. Performances run an hour and begin at 5:00pm. Each workshop will run approximately one hour and fifteen minutes for a total of two and half hours with the teaching artist.

Troops will be asked to bring mask supplies and a brown bagged dinner. More details will be provided upon reservation. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Jessica Bedford, MT’s Director of Education, if you have any questions, concerns, or would like additional information: jessica@montgomerytheater.org.
